I had never been to the Vernal Utah Temple, so May 2014 was my first visit there. I was a little surprised at the look of the temple, as I thought it was one of the newer temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon further inspection, I discovered it was built inside the shell of the former Uintah Stake Tabernacle building, which had originally been dedicated in 1907. In later years, the building had fallen into disrepair and had not hosted a stake conference since 1983. After it’s renovation, it was dedicated as Utah’s 10th LDS temple in 1997 by then President Gordon B. Hinckley.
